Default Matsui MR4099 battery problem.

Ive just put 6 'D' size cells and 2 AA cells in this radio (Sangean ATS803 clone)and cannot get the radio to switch on.The clock has come on showing 0:00 with colon flashing but thats all.The LOCK is off,and the batteries are new.The radio hasn't had batteries in it for over a year now.Could that be something to do with it? Any pointers gratefully received.

Hi,
it is just a wild guess but do you have to set the clock before the radio will work normally ?
it looks like the two aa batteries are for the clock / timer. the d cells are for the radio supply.

Hello,

That happens quite often with the MR4099 and similar. The set seems to lock up when the clock batteries are changed. The trick is to remove all the batteries, wait 5 minutes then reinsert the clock batteries and try again.

Another approach is to power the set via the external power socket, with no batteries in place. With the set running, insert the clock batteries and all should then be well.

Paula thats basically what I ended up doing.Even using the wall wart after 24 hours it still wouldnt fire up.The 2nd day using just the W/W it fired up but the display was very weak.It strengthened after about an hour.I then left it on,inserted the batteries and then disconnected the W/W,and its bee tickety-boo ever since. What a palaver though.
