Osram 4 Music magnet
Hi folks. I have just completed the restoration of a Music Magnet 4; it's detailed here:=
http://g4oep.atspace.com/music%20mag...sicmagnet.html I would like to find pdf or jpg files of the original construction brochure for this wireless. I know some members of this group are willing to email them, but I find I cannot make contact. Any offers ? I am also interested in finding out more about the development of this set. I understand that there was an earlier model of the "4" set with a simpler lid, and wonder what stages the set went through and when it went out of production? Does anyone know whether the set was ever fitted with a variable mu valve in the first postion? Cheers Andy G4OEP |

Re: Osram 4 Music magnet
Hello Andy,
I've attached the scans I have, not brilliant but readable. They all seem to suffer from the corrosion of the front panel, usually refinished in plain brown, but your solution is much better. There are a couple of people here who can rewind transformers, but these intervalve types are a challenge due to the fine wire. The earlier set, as you probably know, was just the Music Magnet, a much simpler design. I have a NMM awaiting attention, with the corroded front panel, but it is missing one of the coil cans, and the transformer is non-original. |

And the rest.
PS. when I say readable, they are in their original form. If you PM me your Email address I'll forward them. |

Hi Andy, I have both the "tortoiseshell" and the (I think) later plain set. Circuitry appears identical from memory.
This was one of the first kit sets to use ganged (one knob) tuning. Ed |

Re: Osram 4 Music magnet
Hello Tiggerr that is a smashing job and looks as new. I have just got one working but the coils are 'green' in the most part so I suspect will have to be rewound. The transformer was open on both the primary and secondary so I cheated, look away now if a bodge offends, removed the innards and used a modern transformer, 124A from Bluebell Audio, which works very well. Meant to be a temporary thing, sort of.

Re: Osram 4 Music magnet
No more of a bodge than restuffing a capacitor, surely?

Re: Osram 4 Music magnet
Hi Chris probably not a bodge as such I guess, although I know one person that would frown on not having it re-wound, my excuse was that I had it on the shelf and that saved a few bob. Bought a few pp3's.
