Top band transmitter
Does anyone remember Practical Wireless back in the early sixties. They had an article for a home brew 160 metres CW transmitter using a 6C4 oscillator, EF91 driver and an 807 PA into a Pi Tank. 10 watts, I think. Morse key in the cathode. I'm looking for a copy of the article for my History book.

Re: Top band transmitter
Electronic copies of Practical Wireless from 1932 to 1999 are available here:-
https://www.americanradiohistory.com...s_Magazine.htm Had a quick look and only Top Band stuff was all AM (and only one using a 6C4) but it could be buried in there somewhere. Last edited by Terry_VK5TM; 2nd Apr 2020 at 11:17 pm. |

Re: Top band transmitter
Given that an 807 in a 10W rig is a bit unusual, I think I would have remembered that in PW - but I don't, though my memory may be failing .

Re: Top band transmitter
The short wave mag one used a 6L6, I seem to remember.
I think you'll just have to search those PWs on the American radio history site, but it might have been anytime in the 50s or 60s. Spare time is one of the few available commodities right now, and trawling through old magazines is very diverting.... David

Re: Top band transmitter
I've had a look through my copies from late 59 to 68. There are several top band transmitter designs but none with that valve line up. There are several using the 6C4 but none with an 807.
I'll take a look at some earlier PWs later. Keith |

Re: Top band transmitter
I suppose radio constructor and the RSGB Bulletin could be other places to explore?

https://www.americanradiohistory.com...%22transmitter 807%22 I've not looked for any more yet. EDIT: Not sure of the contents of the blueprint referred to in this article on page 708: https://www.americanradiohistory.com...PW-1963-12.pdf Lawrence. Last edited by ms660; 3rd Apr 2020 at 1:26 pm. Re: Top band transmitter
PW August 1971 has am/cw dual band tx 6c4, ef91, 6bw6.
Cover has 3 men in suits, shirts and ties with a metal detector on a beach. I often thought how ridiculous that cover looked! I agree David, you can soon get absorbed in looking back at old articles. Rob

Re: Top band transmitter
There's some good stuff in that edition. The Transmitter is very similar to the one I
I built when i got my first HF amateur licence back in 1980. Cheers Aub

Re: Top band transmitter
My sister threw all my 60's PWs in to a skip when she cleared my late mother's house. Haven't seen her for ~25 years.
I've acquired a few copies since then, and always enjoy browsing through them. B
