My first One, Murphy U472
I have finally plucked up the courage and done it! (with helpful advice from Steve P, along with a couple of raps on the Knuckles and "no do as I say").
When the set came there was no back and V5 mssing (thanks Setsappeal). There was much dust and several stowaways.......which were rehomed in the garden, however having been baffled lookng for grub screws on the dials for a couple of minutes i got them off without breaking anything. The chassis was removed along with the speaker still attached. It was boxed and one visit to Steve later caps ordered. Steve gave it some power and there was life, which gave me hope. In the iterim the cabinet a given a good dose of T Cut and elbow grease and the dial glass repaired. In the absence of a back I made one from fibre board I had in the shed. Caps 49, 52, 58, 59 and 71 were replaced along with a new fuse, the caps were put in one by one, after each time power wa applied to test functionallity, until the day cam to put it all back together, After a couple of hiccups, some resoldering, and an equivalent 10P18 being installed the set was soak tested, all was fine..........time for a It was then I noticed the dial light was dead, new bulb and a check of the circuit......nothing accross the bulb so either S2b the on off switch which powers it is U/S or the resistor is, but the set i working so that is a job for another day, The set is now by the PC for my enjoyment (and its small enough to fit)! |

Re: My first One, Murphy U472
Good set there, Mark. I like the back. I have a set here with a back made from a cereal packet. (Not by me!). If you are feeling amenable...
Has your daughter found it yet? Cheers, Steve P.
