Re: Boss wants to give wife radio as birthday present.
Thanks gents for the continuing suggestions.
I have told him it will be very difficult to obtain what he wants and may need to wait as it seems he does not want anything "run of the mill". Quote:
I suspect the A92 although would fit in my collection nicely would be too quirky for him, but I have put it to him. Edit - he says it's too square (roll of the eyes). Mark Last edited by Pilot Mariner; 31st May 2019 at 2:28 pm. |

Show him some more photos to narrow it down a bit but if he's impressed by repro you might have a job on. Ideally, it would be better to leave out the surprise element and run it by the recipient for a guaranteed result.

Mark what about the limited edition 3/4 size copy Philips made of the round topped 634a that they issued in the 80s? No restoration issues, lightish wood, round topped, classic 30s styling, shouldn't be too expensive, gets R4?

Re: Boss wants to give wife radio as birthday present.
Clearly what is needed is needed is an app that will flash images from The Radio Museum to Mark's employers phone, and he swipes left to reject them and right if they have any merit...
...But to be serious for a moment, you can set search parameters in radiomusium.org and I am currently looking at UK radios between 1930 to 1939 displayed as thumbnail images. I have already discovered it's best to limit each search to a couple of years, or else you don't get the complete listing. Let's just hope that his ideal set isn't too rare.

Yes Steve he's a fussy fella but I think he would be happy with a repro, but they seem to be going for a high price.

There is one here in good cosmetic order, though it has ceased to function and I have not had time to look at it yet.

Re: Boss wants to give wife radio as birthday present.
After much deliberation and persuading my fussy Boss that to obtain he really wants would be very difficult, he liked the look of the Pye P75, a bit of a departure from his original brief.
Fortunately I had an un-restored example in my collection which by coincidence was given to me by my previous Boss at my last place of employment. After a cabinet polish, a change of the usual components and a new EL41 valve he is chuffed to bits with it. Hopefully I will be chuffed to bits when it comes to pay rise time! Thanks for all the suggestions. Mark |

Re: Boss wants to give wife radio as birthday present.
Well done. I was going to suggest a 1950s set too as there are plenty of "blonde" finished ones around which still have a fairly traditional look to them, yet they cost next to nothing to acquire.
Got any pictures for us? N. |

Re: Boss wants to give wife radio as birthday present.
Thank you Nick, it does sound very good also.
This is the P75A, wonder what the difference is between the P75 and P75A. Here are some pictures. Mark Last edited by Pilot Mariner; 18th Jun 2019 at 11:48 am. |

Re: Boss wants to give wife radio as birthday present.
That looks very nice indeed. I have one of these on the pile to do at some stage, as well as a P76.
