Default Flickering VFD on VCR.

Hi guys,

Got a vcr with a flickering vfd. The brightness isn't so much of an issue and there doesn't appear to be any damage to the display unit. Wondering as these are cathode units if there is anything on the control board that I can check for/replace?

Here's a quick clip

Thanks again

Faulty electrolytics? Had something similar with a VFD clock. Replaced one of the PSU electrolytics in the supply to the display which cured the problem and it's still going to this day.

It depends a bit on the actual circuit. I would advise to look up the brand and type number of the VCR.

Sanyo vhr-7260e

Not a common machine at all, shares some parts with the more modern fisher machines.

As I remember it ,it was their first of a really slim design that also had the stop button double as the ON/OFF.
I had the next model up from this the VHR4350e I believe.
I would check the caps in the PSU area.
Normally if those VFD's are iffy they are just slightly dimmer not flickering.
