Default Pye Caprice R31

Hi
I have a Pye R31 which I have restored, the only problem with it is that on VHF the front end seems to be overloaded.
On stronger stations, the sound is distorted and on weaker stations it is ok.
The tuning on VHF seems to be over sensitive.
All voltages are pretty close to the Trader Sheet data.
The distortion does not appear to be in the audio stage as this is working fine with medium wave.
Can anyone shed any light on what might be happening as trying to find the problem is doing my head in.
Thank you.

Has C42 (makers circuit) been replaced remembering the positive lead goes to chassis?

The diode on pin 7 V3 appears to be AGC delay, R19 4.7M feeds the AGC line for VHF, perhaps worth checking that area.
R14 is another high value resistor 22M in that circuit.

I did the R37 Rancher version some time back. Instability on VHF was cured by a short
strap (copper braid) between the main chassis and the FM tuner head body.
