Default Ace Radio.

Does anyone know or have any information on this brand? or was it just badge engineering?
I have had for many years a radio made by this firm but have never been able to find out much about this company really apart from they were once in willesden London.

All I know is it was bought by STC in 1960/61, along with Argosy, Regentone and RGD to join with their other brands KB and Brimar.

Some information on its late 1940s products attached. It appeared to have participated in the upper end of the radio receiver market as well as the general sector.

All of those Wireless World excerpts are also available at the usual place, https://www.americanradiohistory.com...d_Magazine.htm.

Cheers,

I have two flyers for Ace TV's , circa 1952, the Astra V18/14 and the Orion V18/17. Their address was Tower Works, Tower Road, London NW 10. I can scan and post tomorrow. Nothing on their radios.

Here is the information on Ace Radio Ld, that I have accumulated over time:

Ace Radio Ltd, Tower Works, Tower Road, Pound Lane, Willesden, London, NW10 (in 1946 & 57). Established in 1937. Maker of radios and radiograms and (in 1948) an electric floor polisher.

Opened a factory in Rhyl, North Wales circa 1962 (or was it already an STC factory?).

Acquired by Kolster-Brandes Ltd (STC) in 1962. The 1964 “Trader” Year Book shows their address as: Cefndy Road, Rhyl, North Wales.

After KB's parent Standard Telephones and Cables (STC) acquired Ace, Argosy, Regentone and RGD brands in 1962, these brands (with KB) became part of "The Consumer Products Division of STC" (and so were just badge engineered KB designs). There was at least one Ace TV fitted with the STC (KB) VC1 chassis.

The 1964 “Trader” year book shows Argosy Radiovision Ltd at Argosy House, Rhyl, North Wales (same location as Ace Radio Ltd).

In 1971, Cefndy Road, Rhyl, North Wales, was the headquarters of ITT Manufacturing Services:
ITT Components Group Europe, ITT Manufacturing Services, Cefndy Road, Rhyl, North Wales.

In December 2014, a social housing development was started on the former ITT factory site, where televisions were made, but which has been derelict for several years.

My recollections of this Brand was that the name was eventually relegated to use on low-end Radiograms sold through Furniture stores during the late 1960s. Even by then many of the radio sections were just AM only.

After the acquisition of Ace Radio by STC a low cost radiogram equipped with an Ace chassis was marketed under the Argosy name.

There is still a company called ACE Radios still listed in Rhyl according to company records
Showing active .

https://www.bizdb.co.uk/company/ace-...ited-03753806/

In fact there are two, but the other one seems to be a taxi firm listed at a different address and owner.
