Default Standard SR-T183FLE radio cassette

Just purchased this to add to my collection im guessing mid 1970's, i see Standard radio became Marantz later in life.
Its in good condition, seller said working, which the radio does very well indeed, but the tape deck is another matter, seller had go it working using rubber bands
suffice to say it doesnt work, it will require a strip down as the deck has 2 belts, one is hidden at the front.
One question the radio was painted black on top over chrome, over the years the black has come off, any suggestions to restore this top panel as it had the switch positions marked on as well
