Smearing with older HP inkjet printers
I'm putting this up, as it is fairly relevant!
If, like me you have one of the older HP inkjet printers, the 500 or 600 series (the 500 qaulify - I got mine when I had my 286, about 1994), and you find it starts to smear, it is worth carefully dismantling the printer, and cleaning the area where the cartriges park, and the felt cleaning pad next to it, as over time, they become loaded with ink which then transfers itself to the bottom of the cartridge, and then to the paper...... The parts can usually be cleaned with water, but IPA may be needed for stubborn deposits. I am told this is still a problem with the latest models, though I only have a 560 and a 670 here. Jim. |
