Default Wobble on Tandberg 4000x

Hi All
I am restoring my late fathers Tandberg 4000x. I have given it a thorough clean, lube motor, capstan and idler. Also changed the belt. Spent a lot of time on the heads as they were in a poor state and so sound a lot better. However can't get rid of the wobble. Am just left with the pinch roller as wobble seems to occur after this. There is still give in the roller but I probably think here is were the tape slips. Before thinking of replacing the pinch roller is there any restoration I can do. I did read using sandpaper 150 grit to help produce some grip is one option

Any suggestions will be welcome

Thanks

Kevin

Can you feel the wobble/vibration on the take-up spool. It's likely that it is the cause and if the pinch roller is slipping slightly you will hear it as a wobble. Check and clean the clutch and you may cure the fault. The pinch wheel may also benefit from a good clean.

Thanks I will I will do this tomorrow and see how it goes and you can feel the wobble on the take up spool. Fingers crossed as I and the Tandberg have come along way over past 6 weeks.

Look at whether the clutches are set up correctly as there has to be a gap between the fast forward and rewind arms and where they activate the relevant felt. If there's any drag from these it will cause all sorts of speed wobble. Best get the manual as it gives set up procedure very clearly
