There is a huge amount of nostalgia around the Trio 9R-59DS – I had one for sale on the stall at the BVWS in 2014 – it attracted a HUGE amount of interest. I was lucky to have the matching speaker to go with it too.

It had obviously been owned by a licenced user – as it had a ‘Dymo’ G8 number on it. It required a valve replacing and off it went – I found it difficult to operate as I really didn’t understand the band-spread IIRC. The display on it was also quite compact. I remember it being quite well made.

Over many years, Al, my approach has changed. At one time, I would (and did) wade in and modify gear. However I now realise that I probably detracted from the equipment's value as well as spoiling its originality. The time-honoured 'radio ham' approach to modifying stuff doesn't always fit comfortably with my desire to repair and restore equipment to its original state wherever possible. I acknowledge that mods can improve performance, but nowadays I generally prefer not to modify, unless repair is impossible without so doing.

Hi Phil.

Sorry for the late reply but I missed out on the set on eBay so will keep a look out for another.

John.
