Re: Improvised project cases ?
My favourite for small projects is square PVC drainpipe.
Cut a short length of it, then cut two squares of FR4 PCB material, each about 20% larger than the pipe, to form the front and rear of the case. Solder small bits of FR4 to the 'inner' side of the front/rear plates, at 90 degrees, positioned so they just fit inside the pipe. Drill these little bits and solder brass nuts to them - these then take screws through the sides of the pipe to retain the front/rear pieces. After you've done the necessary drilling of holes for controls/connectors, spray the front and rear pieces to match the pipe. Or spray them a contrasting colour: Black front/rear plates with a white pipe can look good. The thing I like about this design is that by making the front/rear plates oversize they lift the 'body' square-pipe clear of whatever you sit the thing on, giving better airflow and also looking rather more like something you'd buy from IKEA than something cobbled together in a kludger's workshop. The PVC is also quite fire-retardant, unlike some of the other plastics you're likely to come across. |

I wondered why one coffin was offered 'used' and was slightly amused to read "Only used once to repatriate a client from overseas." You could get a whole radiogram in one of those |
