I'd say you've got nothing to lose by trying. See if you can get the ribbed top off in one piece with a slitting disc in a Dremel or a fine hacksaw. It can always be rebuilt with glue and filler once a new lead is fitted.

I have an MB60 lead that has an elderly repair. Looks like the top has been sliced off with a craft knife, the flex re-soldered and fixed back together with four small wood screws. I'm away from home at the moment, but I'll post some photos when I get back on Tuesday.

Regards,

Tony

Herald 360, yes I've nothing to lose just wondering whether to cut the top off or the two pronged part from the top . Will wait for Tony to post his pictures. I thought of maybe making some sort of mould out of resin but I think that would be a job for a pro. Will post some pictures when I've sliced off the top. Tim

No, not elegant at all. Not helped by the fact there are a couple of bits broken off either, but it is surprisingly solid when all screwed together.

Flippineck ! Death trap alert !

I've often wondered if it would possible to mould or 3D print a suitable plug; cant be that difficult ?

I've also often wondered how many MB60s were ever used with batteries; possibly not that many. Its a shame that the number of genuine mains leads in captivity is (it would appear) greatly exceed by the number of MB60s.

Not really a death trap- unless you undo the screws whilst it's live. Not pretty, and could do with the soldering tidying up and some careful moulding with a bit of slow epoxy resin, but I've seen worse 13A plugs than that !

3D printing or even machining from a solid bar could be used to produce a better result, but would involve a fair bit of time and enthusiasm.

I changed the mains lead on my plug with minimal chopping about.

I went in from the old mains lead with a dremmel type tool until I found the soldered joins. A new lead was soldered in and then araldite the car body filler used hold it in place and fill the gaps
