I am looking for somebody who has an Gecophone B.C.2050 radio from 1924.

Hi Paul, try Radiomuseum as well as other national museums. The circuitry will be fairly simple, but will probably not be documented.
The parts will be specifically Gecophone types, but later Gecophone ones may be identical Ed |

Re: Gecophone B.C. 2050 case.
The one in the Radiomuseum doesn't look at all original.
Its supposed to be a 1924 set but has a Screen Grid valve and much later looking coils. A lot of these early sets were "upgraded" in the 1930's when they had no value. Cheers Mike T

Re: Gecophone B.C. 2050 case.
Agreed, the insides in the pic are from around 1929-1932?
5 valves and 2 tuning controls so it was probably 2 RF, detector and 2 AF stages all triodes. Plug-in coils so capacitor tuned. Couple of interstage transformers for AF coupling. There are various pictures of GEC radios from the period and it probably used the same parts. I have a BBC stamped mahogany cabinet for a 4 valve set from the same period with just the ebonite back panel remaining with holes and markings for the connectors and a number which I guess is the BBC registration number. I picked up a 1932 Scott Taggart ST300 mains conversion (no case and breadboard reduced to dust from woodworm) for next to nothing and plan to rebuild it in the case with a small speaker. I got as far as cleaning/testing the parts and rebuilding caps then put it aside. These early 30's TRF's work surprisingly well. |

What's the number?
The BVWS maintains a list, so we may be able to identify your radio. |

The other number on the plate is Inst.No 999B. In Harmsworth's Wireless Encyclopedia you can find here on page 1017 on top.

Sorry Paul, I was referring to PJL's empty case.
Inst.No 999B sounds like the serial number of your radio. |
