Default Ekco Radio Model Identification

Hi all

Can anyone identify the model number for this Ekco? The back cover is not original to the set hence the missing information.

Looks to be late '30s?

Thanks!

It looks very stylish, the cabinet has the same machining on the edges as the Ekco televisions from 1949

U27 is a similar dial arrangement. 1946
Could be an export set?
Valve line up may help.

Coverage appears to be MW and two SW bands, though I can't read any station names - if so that's generally a sure indication of an export model.

Are you sure it's an Ekco? The styling looks more French. Could it be a French radio that someone has put Ekco knobs on? Why can't you read the station names? Do you mean they are illegible or are they in some foreign language?

It isn't Paul's set. He's working from the OP's photo.

I agree it looks like a U27 in a different cabinet. Maybe the chassis was exported and fitted into a locally manufactured cabinet - this did happen sometimes. The radio would then have been brought home by a returning expat.

As Paul says, it's normal for export variants to have LW replaced with an additional SW band, usually the 'tropical band' covering the 80m and 120m broadcast bands.

If so, why is machineage asking us here? And how does he know the back is not the original?

I was interested in buying the set.

The seller said there was no model number on the radio so I thought I would ask here

Here's the dial...

There are lots of Indian references on the tuning scale, so it may come from there. India had tight import restrictions after independence, and Ekco set up a joint venture there to make radios.

I've just been advised by private message that eBay images may not be allowed on the forum - I apologise if that's the case - it's something I was unaware of. Could one of the moderators clarify?

Looks to have a very similar dial and knob configuration to the AW70 dating about 1939.

There are tight restrictions on eBay discussions here, but we sometimes turn a blind eye as in this case. No discussion of the actual auction or seller please.
