Bush DAC51 introduced 1938. No picture on RadioMuseum so perhaps not that common.

Thank you Rejectostat.
I see the service sheet is for a DAC53 but with a supplementary sheet for the DAC51. Not had a set with a barretter before. Colin |

Re: Help identifying 30's? Radio.
This may now become a repair thread?
"BA51" So a battery model as well. Ok, so radio with me now. The 2 problems I have found so far are an open circuit barretter C.1, although the one fitted is marked Philips D51 / R358. One of the I.F. coils is reading 8 Ohms instead of around 4. I suspect a strand of the Litz wire is broken? Not sure if I should deal with this now or see how the set performs first, after the usual re-cap. The latter is probably best? It seems nicely laid out with most components accessible. The set was owned by a friends Grandad & was purchased new from a radio shop on the A2 in gillingham, its nice to have some history of a set you own. Colin |

Never seen one of these before and 1930's wooden sets are my speciality! A very rare set I would say!

Agreed - I'd have said Bush from the style and knobs and from the ticket hanging inside, but it's a new model to me.

Re: Help identifying 30's? Radio.
I think I'll try a request for a barretter and an I.F. coil. I have re-wound an I.F. before but it took some time and I can't wave wind. However I am looking forward to the challenge.

Thanks, Mr Valve. I dont know how available the C1C will be, but they do look delicate. Colin.

They are quite delicate, so apart from the obvious precautions of avoiding hard knocks etc., the wire inside is made of Iron so keep well away from any magnets & magnetic fields !

I wouldn't worry about the IF resistance, see if it works OK first.

Re: Help identifying 30's? Radio.
The other three IFT'S all measure around 5 Ohms. The one in question is double that so I don't think its right. However after the usual re-cap & fault finding, I will try it as is & see how it responds. I usually then go through the allignment procedure. Lots of work before then though. Colin.
