Re: Steepletone 5002D
The circled A is the Alert brand I think. Are there any more engravings on the ends, particularly next to 250V.

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Somebody has soldered a shorting link across that fuse. This is naughty, as it removes any protection it would have offered.
Have you got a multimeter? |

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Yes I have a Multimeter, I and learning how to use it now, I have it set on Volts, looking for 8 Volts is this correct? Talk me through please.
in you saying that someone has welded a wire across the fuse, interesting, because would that mean that all power from the mains would be going into the player? and that its too much? there is a 3 amp fuse in the plug. you guys are amazing. Alan |

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Have you tried moving the tone arm to the right as suggested earlier? When the arm is moved to the right the plastic moulding should move out from between the switch contacts, applying power to the motor.
The turntable won't rotate unless it's in gear ie the speed control should be set to 33 or 45. Don't force it if it's stuck, you may break something.

Re: Steepletone 5002D
If the above fails check the AC voltage on the two yellow wires coming from the mains transformer.
AC meter ranges are denoted by the letters AC or the '~' symbol. I don't know what voltage you should see here, but I'm guessing something between 12 and 25 Volts.

On the next question, when testing those 2 yellow wires, in AC, i am not getting a reading, i have got the Multimeter set at 200m, and i have unplugged the player, i am write in saying that the power when testing should never be ON, as i could get a shock |

Re: Steepletone 5002D
You cannot measure voltage without power being applied.
Resistance should only be measured with the power off. I can describe how to make some resistance measurements with the power off, but ultimately you'll have to apply power. I don't know what 200m means. I think we'd better have a picture of your meter so we can point you to the correct range.

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Its working, i have the turn table going around. i think in moving what you shown me maybe losen it, but it is going around now.
SO thank you soooooooo much, So i need a needle now. the turn table speed look slow, but i will find this out when i get the needle and try a record. Any ideas were the Needle is called and how to install?? |

Any ideas on the needle? And how to fit the new one.

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Edward Huggins is our resident cartridge and stylus expert. He'll be along shortly.
Have you tried stroking the little 'V' which the stylus lodged in to see whether you get sound from the speakers?

Re: Steepletone 5002D
The Stylus Lady has those colour black whereas
yours is red but but no matter. Her website shows Steepletone 5003 but looks the same. Last edited by peter_sol; 27th May 2020 at 9:00 am. |

Re: Steepletone 5002D
If the point is still there on that stylus I would glue it back in to the plastic holder, the correct way up
Try superglue. |

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Hi!
That transformer is small enough for a 63mA anti surge fuse 5 X 20 mm to be suitable in the 5002 Steepletone, and that's almost certainly what it's coded. If you connect the correct speakers to the unit and switch it on with the volume turned up full you should get some "liveliness" from the speakers when you gently tap the pickup head with your finger. Re: Steepletone 5002D
The fuse colour code website link for 63mA on a 4 band fuse indicates Green Green Green for 63mA ? I know that resistor colour code would be Blue Orang Black, the first 2 digits on the fuse of 50 makes it confusing.

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Unfortunately the MA rating has been obscured by the solder blob.
I think 50 MA is too low. likely to be a F 500 MA. |

Re: Steepletone 5002D
Stylus is CONER R608. I think there was a Japanese one which also fitted, see my earlier post.
I suspect this machine is of Eastern European origin. I worked on a music centre which was very similar about 8 or 9 years ago.

Re: Steepletone 5002D
One coloured bands fuse coding system. It doesn’t seem to match the system on the fuse pictured, but it may be of general interest. Printed in issue 39 of CES Service Link, May 1975.
