300k is only 11% higher than the specified 270k.

It may be better than the original resistor which would often have 20% tolerance..

Those replacements look like 1 watt types....last forever! Personally I would replace with a 270K for neatness.

Thanks
I just rechecked the heater voltage of V6 and V7 with valves removed. Both are showing 6.7v ac.
I've ordered some 270k 2w resistors which I agree will give a neater job.

I've fitted the new resistor, and will now start to put it all back together.

Thanks to everyone who helped out. Here is a link to a video of the amp playing from the Louis Armstrong/Duke Ellington 'Together Again' LP.

Sounds really good, I presume you got plenty of bass, listening via my iPad doesn’t do it justice.

Excellent - and a very satisfying repair.

Is that the original red XMS pickup head we're listening to ?

An excellent result, you'll soon be a real authority on these amplifier units and know the circuitry like the back of your hand. I see you stopping the record detector so that manual play is possible on the RC75/80 deck. What you need is a short manual play spindle. I had a chap at work turn me one to the right size on a lathe. There's two different diameters on the same spindle and you can take measurements from the existing long cranked spindle. I then finished it off myself, forming the top profile and the small 'flat', then finally polished it up on the top with fine emery paper so that it wouldn't mark record labels. Spindle shown below if you want to make one.

Hi Hartley118. The cartridge is a sonotone 9TA. This was recommended to me by another forum member and really does sound fabulous. I've attached a pic.

Thanks techman- that looks a much better option. It's quite difficult to locate the centre of the record sometimes!
