A 625 line valve monochrome monitor kit???
Hey all
I want to build a small 7 or 9” mono monitor to take a composite 625 signal also with a low power stereo audio amp. I have a collection of vintage computers and I would love to have a small valve monitor houses in a plexiglass case with like a ZX81 or something feeding it. Anyone got any ideas on this? Cheers C

PC monitor usually requieres larger bw than tv sets, more than 50MHz. Are you able to manage such a circuit? Horizontal deflection and eht supplies are very cum ersome, thougt about the 15KV for the TRC anode.

Re: A 625 line valve monochrome monitor kit???
The ZX81 had very low resolution so band width would not be a problem and the time base would be the same as UK television.
As for using valves there would be more of a problem finding a LOPTx. I don't know of any small screen valve sets that would provide a source of components. The only other option I can think of is to get hold of something like an old Thorn portable and use that, maybe hide the chassis and fire up the heaters on a few spare valves to create the effect required. |

I was thinking of using a more recent tube/yoke/LOPT section from a donated set if the rest can be designed with valves..

The KB Featherlight was an 11" transportable valve set.
Cracking little set just don't pick it up by its handle (long story). You can see one in this thread. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=94115 Cheers Mike T

Re: A 625 line valve monochrome monitor kit???
I might suggest some of the ac/battery operated TV sets from the 70's & 80"s that were used here in the U.S.
IIRC they made some with 2-1/2 - 6" CRT's. I remember one Radio Shack one I saw with comp. inputs on the back of it. I think Sony was who made a lot of them. Long time to remember back accurately. |

Re: A 625 line valve monochrome monitor kit???
Hi to all,
Hi Courtney Louise, For the fun of it, you can build this small 5" B&W TV/Monitor from a Chinese kit, it even has an A/V input. see photos & (lousy, Sorry!) schematic. I didn't post the link to the product to avoid contradicting forum rules. You can probably find it easily via the UK version of the Ali web site. Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

Re: A 625 line valve monochrome monitor kit???
As this is a request although not in the sets and parts required, I think post an eBay link under this situation is permitted.
Rule C3 You may not post links or references to items just because they interest you, though you may respond to a "Sets/Parts Wanted" or "Information Wanted" post by mentioning an eBay item or posting a link to it. So this is a request so you can put the link in you post. Cheers Mike T
