Default Unkown External Loudspeaker For Valve Radio To Be Identified

Hello

Have some pics attached of an unknown brand vintage external loudspeaker
for valve radio.
All I can ID from one of the photos on the internal bracket for the unit is
Type P.M.4

If you could help me identify this unit this would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for your consideration

The cabinet is by S.G. Brown and I think dates from around 1926-8 - this is a fairly similar example with a slightly different fret design:

My guess would be the loudspeaker fitted isn't original, but dates from a few years later. Moving-iron drive units such as the one shown in the link above had almost vanished by the early '30s, supplanted by moving coil designs capable of much better performance and essentially very similar to most speakers to this day: so many perfectly good cabinets were improved with new and better drivers in the early '30s. I couldn't say who made the present unit, but someone here will probably know. PM in its model designation will stand for Permanent Magnet, as distinct from the energised magnet speakers fitted to many mains radios of the day.

It could just be an early Lowther - a sight of the cone might help identification.

Thanks for the response on this matter.

Could members please give their thoughts on a sale price for this item?

Thanks for your consideration.

Regards,
J

It is near impossible to offer you a sales value for your two loudpseakers. We don't know if the voice coils still have continuity or the actual maker of the drive units. Even if still working, it is unlikely that they would ever be used except to partner a similar period radio.

There does not seem to be much demand for External Loudspeaker, there have been a few offered free on this site.
