Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
There's also this:
We are planning to carry out some test transmission on October 22nd, approximately between 13:00 CET (11:00 UTC) and 16:00 CET (14:00 UTC). SAQ will be on air shorter periods of time during this interval, when we will be carrying out some tests and measurements.

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
I'm sure I've seen references to use of a computer sound card to receive this 17.2kHz signal. Anyone got any info?

Hi Keith,
If you search YouTube on "SAQ on a soundcard" you'll get a lot of hits. 73 Roger |

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
Heard the first tests around 1300 hrs local. Quite a nice signal again, but my noise level seems a bit higher than usual today.

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
Thanks Roger - should have "Googled" first. I shall give it a go on Sunday.

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
Unfortunately for me, another Failed attempt to receive SAQ Grimeton
this afternoon. Unusually for this location, I seem to have a bit of Noise now, which I didn't have before, which doesn't help. I need to look into this. Power Output was down a bit apparently, although I doubt this had a great effect on reception. I'm using a Datong VLF convertor Clone with a Kenwood R5000. I'm guessing, I need a more elaborate Antenna. The Datong instructions, say to use a fairly short Wire antenna though, to avoid overload. Anybody else using a Datong VLF convertor for SAQ reception? and if so, what Antenna System were you using? Ian |

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
Hi Ian,
Yes, also using Datong VLF converter in front of FT857. Just a piece of wire indoors at the moment, about 20ft long, but in spite of turning every other appliance off, noise level was still 10dB over S9. Although I thought I could detect CW under the noise, nothing at all readable. I'm going to try and get a loop sorted for the Xmas transmission. Kind regards Dave G0ELJ |

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
I planned to listen using my Marconi Mercury. Got home very late on Friday from working away all week, busy all day Saturday, so started to get equipment sorted out this morning: one end pole of my long wire aerial had collapsed during the week, re erected that first, dug out the power supply; home made with variable, regulated HT, switched it on and the magic smoke escaped so gave up and thoroughly enjoyed watching the live streamed preparation and transmission, still couldn't copy the whole of the message but that is solely down to me.

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
I tried on my Marconi Atalanta, but unable to hear SAQ's transmission, apparently they could not manage full power to the aerial, hence the weak signal.

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
I only just received it here using a SDRplay RSP1A and an untuned long wire. It was weaker than last July.
I could not resolve the message but could see it on the waterfall display of the SdrUno software. Only the actual transmission at 15.00 UTC though, not any warm up periods before. William |

Re: SAQ 17.2KHz
Delighted to say that I did manage to receive SAQ here this afternoon. I used a very crude setup, strapping the feeders on my 80m doublet and connecting straight into the left line-in channel of a PC soundcard and running SDR software by Johan Bodin, SM6LKM. The signal was only just discernable above the noise. Maybe next time I'll attempt to tune the aerial. Recording can be found here:
