Replaced many Beta heads but never a single one in a Sanyo 5000 series! An eccentricity gauge was required to center the disc and great care had to be taken if premature head wear was to be avoided but never used an alignment tape. I can't remember getting any problems.
I must admit I loved the VHS system. As the tape manufacture improved it was very difficult to tell a recording from live. [JVC HRD140] John.
