Default Servis dishwasher mk82 and Tricity oven 1970's

Hello all,

Question on restoration of a 1973 servis dishwasher mk82 and a Tricity oven 1970's?

We have a period 1970's house that has been kept pretty much in the original condition which it was built. Really well looked after. We moved in last September.

Most people think we are mad. Which just makes us want to preserve this house all the more.

To that end, we are looking to replace the more modern oven, dishwasher and fridge in our kitchen.

We have recently received a servis mk82 dishwasher from 1973 and a Tricity oven from the 70's and hob to match.

The dishwasher needs a new capacitor that's all I think and it's in good shape.

The oven however.... It's dirty, a bit rusty, the control box has crumbling wires and the glass is horribly greasy and the clock is seized up.

Has anyone restored either a dishwasher like this or the cooker?

Any tips please!

Thank you for your help

Nick and Shirleyann

Hi Nick, e-spares my well have the cooker controls or more modern equivalents available.
Note that a lot of Tricity cookers with a combined top oven and grill used a rather special controller for this part to arrange the series/ parallel connections needed to get it to work correctly. Not easy to find but it can be overcome with an additional mains 2 pole relay

Ok thanks Ed, 2 pole relay? Is it on the picture attached? I need to find the wiring diagram for this if possible too.

Thank you

Nick

Hi Nick, tricity service manuals used to be available but not sure now.
The 2 pole relay needs to be used as an addition to a "standard" element controller to get the system working correctly on top oven & grill units

Ok thank you Ed, I will see how I get on. I think the oven might be a lost cause as I cant get the clock to show any signs of life even with power put directly to the unit. Might just be the motor.

The search continues....

Is the clock the only problem with the oven, Nick?

Hi the clock has started to work, kind of. I just need to rewire a few bits that are crispy, then plug it in. Can I temporarily plug it into they mains on a breaker using a 13 A plug?

Its not as bad as it looks, the grease and muck is no match for elbow grease and fairy liquid with a mild scourer.

There is another oven on much better nick at another house I've got my eye on. This one is just too see if it can be saved.

Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick,
I assume the 13A plug (and 13A fuse?) is for the whole thing, not just the clock?

Hi Mike yes the whole thing, just to test it actually warms up.

The clock motor spins and the timer works but I need to rewire the connections as they are all crispy.

As long as you don't try to run everything at once, a 13A supply will be fine for testing. Even the oven will likely be only around 2kW.

A 13A socket will indeed be fine for testing. At my old house the 32A cooker-circuit terminated in a pair of 15A round-pin sockets, one to power the 5-ring hob, the other for the twin-oven. After 15 years of heavy use there was no sign of any heating of the plugs/sockts.

"Diversity" in action.

Does anyone have any parts for a tricity oven like this? Namely the clock, thermostats and knobs?

Thanks very much

Nick

Don't know which search terms you have been using but the item you are calling a thermostat, is often better known as a 'simmerstat'. I have not repaired many white goods lately but there used to be shops that supplied parts. The sort of shop that took in repairs and sold vacuum cleaner consumables. Otherwise try internet searches for domestic appliance spares or parts. Also white goods spares or parts, there are companies out there.

When I was having the kitchen re-fitted in this house I kept the old oven in the dining room, and used a bit of 2.5 flex and a 13A plug to connect ti up for temporary use.

Using the oven OR a hob ring seemed to be no problem, and all seemed to work as expected.

I personally wouldn't use more than one item at a time though.

Obviously for a permanent install the correct way is an RCD, 32A breaker, 6mm cable and a cooker switch etc.
