Coool!
Santa, I want one. Seems to be a £30 item, Argos have then and on the ebay. Refilling kits extra.
Used to bobbin knit when I was a kid.

You can use an empty cotton reel with four panel pins...

Yes but it takes ages and you generally use just one thread (you can use four, as many as the panel pins). I take it that the reels on this machine do their Maypole-like dance around the centre? I'm thinking you may be able to use more exotic threads, like Nomex, to make up braided cables!

I also wonder how well the cotton-reel technique works with modern plastic cotton reels - i.e. how well the panel pins stay in place.

My late nan called this french knitting and I remember as a wee boy back in the 1960s being shown how it was done with a wooden cotton reel and 4 pins.

If you google "french knitting" there is a mass of stuff including various machines.

If you used as low a number of reels as possible (3?) of fine thread, maybe it could be used to make cotton covered enamel copper wire for wave winding.

Would this be any cheaper than just purchasing Vintage Braided Cable on ebay etc?
which is about £2.30 per metre, cheapest I've seen it.
