Grundig video 2x4 smoke help
Hi guys, I picked up a V2000 player a Grundig 2x4, fixed it, and was watching a tape on it when it started spewing blue smoke from the power supply board. I have had the board out but cant figure out where the smoke was coming from. there is a strong smell around a large component that I do not know what it is. Its a Siemens AZ3-5656, which is a big blue block. I have done most of the caps on the PCB and they're still fine.
Please any advice and help would be super, as I reallly want to get this back up and running Alan This was it playing a few days ago https://youtu.be/QuWkD0lgJRY |

Re: Grundig video 2x4 smoke help
Most likely point would be the blue Mains filter capacitors, you would need to remove to discover which has failed, cant quite see from your picture but also look for any Rifa make capacitors, there could be one nest to the large round transistor on the heatsink.

Re: Grundig video 2x4 smoke help
If that is the blue cap on the extreme left of the pix, it looks like a mains suppressor cap, so it should be X type or X2 type 250v AC, not an ordinary 0.47uf 250v DC cap. That's just a guess as it seems to be next to the mains fuse?
It is still only 2 wires, not polarised and not electrolytic! |

Re: Grundig video 2x4 smoke help
As a test, unsolder the suspect component and try the machine again.
If it works normally, all you need to do is buy a suitable mains filter cap and fit. Nick. |

Re: Grundig video 2x4 smoke help
These capacitors are not polarised, they can be fitted either way round.
But 473k is not 0.47uF. It's 10 times smaller (0.047uF = 47nF). A 0.47uF capacitor would be marked 474. You read them a bit like resistors, 2 digits and a multiplier, the value then being given in picofarads (pf). So 473 -> 47*10^3pf = 47nf = 0.047uF. 474 -> 47*10^4pF = 0.47uF |

Re: Grundig video 2x4 smoke help
1: AV Switching voltage input (+12V to switch the set to AV)
2: Composite Video input 3: Ground 4: Audio Left 5: +12V output (for switching purpose)(A Bridge from 1 to 5 switches the set to AV) 6: Audio Right Connect them in this way to the SCART Connector: DIN --> SCART 1 8 2 19 3 4+17+21 4 3 5 - 6 1 Pins viewed from solder side
