Re: Saba Freudenstadt 8 repair and restoration
The YouTube videos here show how effective walnuts and Brazil nuts can be is dealing with scratches and stains on wooden surfaces.
The restoration of the chair seat, badly scratched by dog claws is impressive: https://macgyverisms.wonderhowto.com...iture-0161224/

Re: Saba Freudenstadt 8 repair and restoration
some words on the Magic Eye tuning indicator on this set:
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=143990 In the end I cut some sheets of rubber used for air conditioning ducts. They were cut with an opening for the window. The window was then bonded to the rubber sheets and them to each other using spray contact adhesive. The assembly then wrapped around the new EM84 and and pressed into the clip. It was a right game to align the window and the tube in the clip as the clip grips the rubber very well. Can't say its perfect yet. Too many degrees of freedom! The tube - an NOS Mullard one, looks as if its not straight in the envelope - even with the mount set as far one way as it goes, the green strip still isn't straight. I have a second spare I bought - might try that and see if its any better - it was advertised NOS but is used - phosphor better than the original but still a bit worn.. Kevin. |

Re: Saba Freudenstadt 8 repair and restoration
Hi. New member here. Stumbled upon this site after picking up a Saba Villingen 9 and found this thread. Many thanks for the detailed input. I think the Freudenstadt is likely to be more complex the the Villingen to restore/renovate. Nonetheless really helpful insight into what is my first dive into the valve radio world.
