Thumbs up Ekco Electron CR946 1969 Car radio

Hi guys new here.

I have a Ekco Electron CR946 car radio which was in a classic car I have just bought, it does not work, it only makes a sound upon when I switch it on and then is blank, it is correctly wired up. It is in really good condition.

Would anyone be able to repair this for me? I am based in Aylesbury but will post and cover all costs.

Regards, Nick.

The problem is most likely to be inside the Mullard module. It's very common for these to give trouble due to the type of transistors used inside them. They suffer from internal short circuits caused by the growth of "tin whiskers" Easily fixed with more durable replacement transistors. I can do this for you but live in North Wales and am a bit showed under at the moment. If you've had no joy locally in a couple of weeks, let me know as I should be on top of my backlog by then.

I'm nearer to you, Nick, than Rob, but have also a lot of work on at present. It may take me several weeks to clear my backlog.

I could do this if you can get it to me near Witney before Thursday evening.... I can make off to Leominster with it and have a go next week (on "holiday" sorting out new home- it could be the first job in my new workshop!). I've got AF11x subs (Russian GT322B) handy.

Post no good- in temporary flat with letters only mailbox. Could maybe meet somewhere round Oxford. Pint and handover?

PM if interested.

My call was answered, by the member who has fixed this set.

My vague sense of unease at nil response is now gone!

Thread's dead now, I guess.

That would appear to be on a need to know basis for some reason.
