Radio Maker "Portabell"
The Radio Museum has had an email regarding the name Portabell, please see copy below;
"Hi. This is a long shot, But 2 of my Great Uncles, used to make radios, mostly 2 valve, & the company was called Portabell, a play on their surname Porter, & the fact that these were small radios which could be moved around easily, (ie portable) hence the name PortabellI was told they had a small factory next door to Cossor`s somewhere in London or Essex. One of them, Harold Porter used to make Crystal sets on the kitchen table as a teenager, so this is possibly where the company came into being, I have no idea if they were ever a registered company or what, but I have never come across anyone who has heard of the company at all, but I know for a fact that it did exist. Regards Ron Porter." I would be obliged if anybody has any information on a maker or radio called "Portabell" Thanks Mike |
