Another 1960s TV to identify... - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

I recently came across our old family slides, which include some of my dad's 1960s DIY projects. Edging in on the right of this one of the home-made fireplace, is the first tv I remember from my early childhood.

There's not much to go on but the control panel arrangement with two knobs for off/vol and brightness says Pye (or maybe Invicta) to me. I can't quite make out whether there's a set of UHF pushbuttons running horizontally below the rotary VHF tuner, suggesting it was an early dual standard. I have a dim memory of watching Playschool, which started on BBC2, although moved to BBC1 later on.

The photo dates from about 1966 (four years before I was born) and the tv would have been replaced in about 1974 by an Alba BRC1500 series.

Any ideas?

Definitely a Pye Group set. I'd say it's an Invicta.

Thanks David, I'm sure you are correct. If those are 4 UHF tuner buttons below the VHF knob then I suppose this would be an 11U chassis although it must be a very early one.

I think it pre-dates the 11U, possibly a 'convertible' set.
All the 11U models I have seen did not use a plate glass implosion screen.
I would guess early 60's.

The Ekco T433, a later 11u type chassis used a glass implosion screen, 1964 vintage.

The Pickolit knobs certainly look like an Invicta. The push button tuner is probably the UHF one. Looks a bit 'British Relay' to me. It is not a common presentation of the 11U but there were endless models based on this chassis and many rental specials. John.
