Default Grille cloth for DAC90

I picked up a very worn Bush DAC90 when I was in England earlier this year. The grille cloth is shot. Is there anyone in the UK that make a reproduction of this cloth?

The lady referred to is Corrien Maas, in the Netherlands. Here's her link:

http://www.corrienmaas.nl/Engels/hoofdframe.htm

I think she does have some standard types of cloth that might be suitable, but I believe that much of her time is spent weaving exact replicas of cloths from samples. I'm not sure that a DAC90, which is a commonplace and not very valuable radio, would warrant great expense, though it's not my radio, so its not really my place to say.

There's also Sid Chaplin in the UK whose contact information and samples of the cloths that he stocks are I think accessible on this forum under 'suppliers'.

Hope that helps a bit.

Welcome to the forum Mike - best of luck in your quest!

David.

Further to my earlier post, here's the forum link to information about Sid Chaplin:

Thanks for the leads. I have quite a bit of grill cloth for US sets, but nothing very similar to what is on the DAC90.

By the way. I just had a reproduction dial glass made for my DAC90 by a company here in the USA. The white paint on mine had some sort of disease and was flaking off. I sent them scans of what was left of it. The dial just arrived the other day, it is immaculate, and I would say indistinguishable from the original. So if anyone else is in the same boat, I highly recommend their services.

Ben Dijkman also makes very high quality dials to order: http://www.bendijkman.nl/index.php?o...mid=53&lang=en

Talking of which, he also does a good range of grille cloths too: http://www.bendijkman.nl/index.php?o...mid=53&lang=nl

If you have an old fashioned mom & pop haberdashery store nearby they may have something suitable. It's worth looking at clothes and curtains in thrift stores and garage sales too.

You can get some wonderful cloths at Asian haberdashes too, there is a great one in Southall. Lycra, if you can find a bit that looks good, is super when streched a bit it never sags.

I have three or four DAC90s here and (without looking) I'm pretty sure some of them have different cloth but all are original.

I recovered mine with hessian, see https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ighlight=dac90

Later ones had a sort of loose-weave nylon grill which survives better.

If you don't mind about originality you could use expanded mesh as found in the slightly later DAC90A. You need to be careful about electrical isolation and/or grounding though.

And also, the mesh is shaped so that it's domed, not flat. Maybe not so easy to do at home.

Try Fender oxblood grille cloth & use the other side. Used on Fender amps, put "fender grille cloth" into a US ebay search. Not identical but similar.
