Nice 1930s Pye spotted in Oxford's Gloucester Green Market, £50
Spotted a beautiful, apparently untouched early 1930s Pye with the rising sun motif speaker fretwork.
Unable to buy because of family reasons(!), but thought someone here might like it. Chap was asking £50 which seemed like a bargain to me! In the Gloucester Green market, on a stall near the newsagents. Nick |

Looked better in the flesh than it does on my ancient camera phone pictures.

It was there last week. I thought it looked pretty tatty but certainly not a wreck. Everything seemed to be there. I did think about buying it but don't really have the space, and it's outside my main area of interest.

Re: Nice 1930s Pye spotted in Oxford's Gloucester Green Market, £50
Fair enough, Paul. The top certainly needed re-finishing and the speaker cloth had a lot of small holes, but the rest seemed reasonable to me. Perfectly restorable by people like us.
I would say it looked smarter than most of these Pyes I've seen for sale, but maybe I'm just used to being offered very ragged sets? Bearing in mind that this is the kind of place where they ask £50 for an unexciting 1950s set in very average condition, and that the empty cabinets of these Pyes sell for more than this on eBay, I still feel this is a very good deal.
