Default What Do the Markings Mean on This Zener Diode?

Hello,

I have two images of a Zener diode, which are not very clear, I'm afraid. On one side of the diode is the letter 'Z' and on the other side is the number '12'. Could someone tell me what the symbols mean? I presume Z stands for Zener.

Thank you in advance.

Probably a 12volt zener.
Z = Zener and 12 being the value.

If you want to check it (assuming it's not short or open already), just connect it to a supply of around 15V with a 1k in series, voltmeter across the diode and the meter should read the zener voltage. Make sure the diode is reverse-biased or it will behave like a normal diode. The 1K resistor is simply to limit the current through the diode.
