Default ACE Radiogram. Is it very special?

Hi Everyone

Following a recent family death I am in the process of sorting out possessions etc, we have a Radiogram manufactured by ACE Radio Ltd it has LW/MW/SW Radio and a Garrad RC65 turntable, link to photos below.

Question is - is it skip material or 'valuable'

Many thanks in anticipation..https://photos.google.com/album/AF1Q..._jJqcVZUXhgB4P.

PS hope this is in correct area.

Hi Richard and welcome. There's a problem with your link, but firstly on here there is no such thing as automatic "skip material"!

As Bill says, link doesn't work.

A look at the chassis with the back cover might identify the maker.
Whatever you do, do not switch it on!

If it has a Garrard RC65 fitted, ths suggests a late 1940s model with EF4x or Octal valves. By the early 1960s ACE mainly made basic, non-VHF, Radiograms sold via Furniture Dealers. I would suggest that the Radiogram has little value.

I assumed the maker was ACE
Ace Radio, 2-5 Dingley Place, London EC1

Rather than expressing that it was a wonderful special "ACE" radiogram

Not too Many ACE radiogram pictures on Radiomuseum but might be worth a look https://www.radiomuseum.org/m/ace_gb_en_1.html

Cheers

Ace were well made basic radiograms often retailed by furniture shops. They catered for the young newly married that were setting up home for the first time.
Most of the business was carried out on 'Hire Purchase'. They would often package a complete room, maybe the living room [including a radio or radiogram]or bedroom.

The use of a Garrard RC65 appears to date it to the late 1940's.
Definitely not skip material. That would be a real shame. They sound very good when overhauled and I'm sure someone on this Forum capable of fully restoring it with a collection of 78's, would love to have it.
The link is broken but at a guess not worth a lot, maybe £20 if the cabinet is in fair condition. I hope it finds a good home. John.
