Wayne Kerr CT492 (B421) Batteries ?
Hello,
I have a Wayne Kerr CT492 LCR bridge that uses batteries The manual states an NSN number that state battery is a dry cell 4.5v so I assume 2 in series to give 9v is that correct ? also states 25mA draw What batteries do other users use ? (pp3 , pp9) or convert to for use with a mains adapter regards john davis uk |

Re: Wayne Kerr CT492 (B421) Batteries ?
Hi!
The most common type of 4.5V battery, and the one that the CT492 was designed to use, is the "1289" type once sold for very old "Ever Ready" cycle–lamps, and you can still get this new under the designation "3LR12", altho' the supermarkets, etc., tend not to stock it! It is still in production and if you shop around you can buy it online for about £2.75–£3.50, e.g., as per this example:– https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392534171205 Chris Williams

Hello John!
Yes 9v is correct. It's a while since I used mine but, if I remember correctly, I used six 1.5v cells (AA/LR6) in a holder to provide the 9v supply. Hugh |

Re: Wayne Kerr CT492 (B421) Batteries ?
PS!
I forgot about the "126" screw–terminal type – you can get this new from the "Small Battery Company" but it is extremely expensive, over £20 delivered! If there's a "126" battery cover scan available and you're good at woodworking, or can fashion something out of PCB offcuts, you might be able to make something like out of three 'C' size alkaline cells, or make a pair of 4.8V rechargeable ones out of 4 × NiMH AA cells each, and if you're good at image–editors, you can print "4.8V Rechargeable" on the cover in authentic "Gill Sans" lettering! Have a prowl round your local car–boot sales when they're next going, you might well find old screw terminal "126" batteries there! Ah, here were are – I've found the original battery specification, attached, and I've appended the bookwork if you need it! Please let me know if you need any of this redrawing, the circuit diagrams aren't the best! Chris Williams
