SMOKE- any one of the old ex GPO/PO transmission persons will never forget the smell that could be instantly diagnosed as terminal failure of a selenium rectifier in ( usually ) a 51 type rack power unit. Or the radio amateur's motto of "tune for maximum smoke" .

Preferably using an ATU capable of matching anything from wooden legs to damp string
