Vintage Electromagnetic doorbell wiring
Hello there, I come to seek advice from vintage electrically minded people.
I have been tasked with wiring a vintage IBEX doorbell up in our house and cant seem to get it to work. Before I go on here is some useful information:
Would really appreciate it anyone had any ideas as to what to do? Kind regards, Mike |

Re: Vintage Electromagnet doorbell wiring
Sorry, but that's not a door bell. It's a telephone extension bell designed to operate from a 25 Hz AC supply. It cannot easily be used as a doorbell.

Re: Vintage Electromagnetic doorbell wiring
It can be done if you're really set on using this bell: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...410#post407410
Much easier to locate a suitably vintage doorbell or chime though. |

Re: Vintage Electromagnetic doorbell wiring
Most telephone bells will ring if you power them from a 30V mains transformer (so 50Hz) with an 8uF (or 10uF) non-polarised capacitor in series. You may want to adjust the armature travel (loosen the screw(s) and move the magnet to set the gap between the armature and the coil core it is not against if you see what I mean) and the gong position (the fixing holes are deliberately off-centre so rotating the gong does that).
BUT... I'll do things like that on my bench for testing and experiments. I am not sure I'd want such a system set up and left powered all the time. |

A carbon-copy misunderstanding was discussed here one year ago.
