Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
I will be there around 5pm I would guess, and I may not be online again before I arrive.
If it's any help for anyone with the FCS I am also going to Wootton Bassett in December and am happy to collect items tomorrow, hold them and take them to WB. |

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
I am taking some clocks for Mike Phelan,
I might bring along a partly restored early 50's Ferranti telly though the veneer on the front has come away around the left hand knob if anyone is interested in finishing it. I also have some 8 pin and 14 pin IC holders if anyone would like any. I will see what else I can uncover and bring along for tomorrow. Christopher Capener

Dr Watts : Has Mikey got or have you got a large Murphy for Mark the Mender. I'll take it up to Warrington for him and pay for it.
Cheers, Steve P.

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
If there is anything that needs to be bought back to Bristol and small enough to fit in a Fiat Punto please let me know. Probably a bit late to collect and take up to Solihull, but I will check here before I leave tomorrow.

Woohoo. Yes, I have the large radio in my utility room and I'll be most pleased to get rid of it. (Although it's not actually taken up that much space.)

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Hello Mike,
I'm interested in taking the Quad FM3 from Mike Phelan, but can't attend today. Assuming Mike is happy for me to have the Quad, could anyone at your gathering help to get it nearer to Evesham, Worcestershire? Alternatively, would you be willing to hold on to it for me? Solihull isn't far from me, and I wouldn't mind driving up to collect it sometime. Just a shame I can't do this afternoon Thanks in advance, Mark |

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Hi there
Due to the refusal of Solihull to move any closer to North Wales I'm afraid I shan't be able to make it today, despite the very tempting mention of a G6 needing work. This means that sets will get fixed and valuable items of furniture will remain unbroken. However, I do expect to see pictures, both on the sets and also of the traditional "where was the engineer when the set went bang?" parlour game. My money's on Tas wearing the lampshade.... Have a great day and don't touch anything I wouldn't touch! Glyn |

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Well what an excellent day
Wasn't there a busting lot of time, but it was great to see Lee, Tas, Mikey, Alan and all the other forum members there. I even managed to meet my first G6 - and what an almighty beast that is ! ! ! Unfortunately our visit was cut short because I told my daughters that I'd take them to the local firework display at Bletchley Park. Still, both Phil and I had an excellent few hours. Was good to see Phil, Tas & Lee get to the bottom of the frame fault on the kitchen operating table Many thanks Mikey Kind regards Dave W

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Landed here at 5:50, so it's feeding time soon.
A great few hours, meeting all the folks I already know and putting names to faces on the others. Hopefully not got them mixed up... Mikey, your hospitality was great, thank you, and we'll look forward to the wanted posters, er pictures. A bit of nostalgia seeing the early G6 D-Std. Not time to take the back off the Baird 700 though. Brings back memories as IMHO they are two great and unusual designs. Left Mark's FM3, complete with mains lead, and came back with no radios or tellies, but a car boot of clocks from Christopher Capener, plus one to fix for Mikey.

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
I got to Mikey's at about 5:40pm and stayed until 10:15-ish, leaving with the last few stragglers. It was a great evening, and I wish I'd been there for more of the day. I really enjoyed meeting several forum regulars in a more informal and less rushed manner than at swapmeets, and also seeing several classic colour televisions working as well as one being repaired. Compared to the distances some people travelled I feel like a local at only an hour and 20 minutes away. I have two more items in my spare room for the FCS now. I will definitely be there all day next time. Thank you Mikey for hosting a great day and to everyone who turned up and made it a success.

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Arrived home around 1am. What a fantastic day and it I certainly had a strange feeling seeing all those dual standard colour receivers performing so well. The dual standard KB CVC1 was incredible. So much better than the CVC2 that always appeared to have strange decoder problems.
It really was great fun meeting up with so many familiar faces. There was a massive swap around of junk in the close prompting strange looks from the very decent neighbours as various rusted detritus was exchanged from car boots. I was presented with a Thorn 8500 from Tas which will be interesting to work on after all these years. Thanks Mickey! A really great day. Loved it. Regards, John. |

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Yes, thanks Mike for your hospitality and for a completely engrossing and entertaining day. The time just flew! I mean where else can you meet up and talk about old tellies until you've got EHT coming out of your ears?
The colour sets on display provoked plenty of memories and anecdotes from those who recalled them first time around. Amazing to stand in a room with no less than five dual standard colour sets all working! Great day Mike and I hope your electricity bill isn't too massive! Steve J |

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
It certainly was a FABULOUS day and what a feat of organisation from Mike. Highlight for me was the CVC1 fixed and giving a fantastic account of itself. Hard as it may seem, it even eclipsed the Invicta CT7050.
I never get fed up of these get togethers and long may they continue. Great to meet up with new and old faces too. All the best to you Mike, Tas PS John - the 8500 was from Mike.

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Wow, well thanks everyone for your nice comments. The great day was really down to everyone that turned up though - my part was just providing the accomodation and the dodgy sets for everyone else to fix. I did enjoy myself immensely - it was fantastic to see so many pals (old and new) turn up, and what an amazing stack of unhealthy but delicious food - especially the HUGE pile of muffins and biscuits from John and the anonymous donations of biscuits and things from people who didn't reveal themselves as the owners of said items. There are an awful lot of good people on this forum. My apologies to all the people (even people I've known for many years) whose name I forgot - I'm not very good at remembering faces and names and sometimes peoples names just seem to get stuck somewhere.
Special thanks to everyone who helped in getting the CVC1 going (and fixing the focus problem on the Bush CTV162) - you know who you are - thanks mates. I'll post some pictures as soon as I've downloaded them from the camera and provide a link to a .ZIP file for anyone who wants the whole lot. Thanks again everyone for making it such a fantastic day. Kind regards. From Mike. Quote:

Re: TV meetup in Solihull and collection of bits-and-bobs.
Oh yes, I nearly forgot, one of the higlights of the day was John plugging in a 1949 Ekco that looked like it hadn't been used for 40 years. It didn't explode and John managed to coax a picture out of it (albeit an extremely narrow one) after disconnecting the Visconol. Not a lamp limiter or toaster in sight.
