Disguising small Scratches
My Grundig 5088 has a number of small scratches on the top. Nothing terribly notice but I would like to do something about them.
Any advice on what to get? Polish, oil? Avro Last edited by Darren-UK; 19th Aug 2007 at 12:03 am. Reason: Ref to avatar removed. |

Re: Small Scratches
Hi Avro,
If the scratches aren't too deep "Mr Sheen Scratch Cover" works well. David |

Re: Small Scratches
For deeper scratches, tinted wax sticks are available from Axminster and some DIY stores - in a range of wood tones. I find them best melted into the scratch, allowed to set then buffed or (very cautiously) scraped with a sharp craft knife blade. With the latter, its prudent to apply a strip of masking tape either side of the sratch, a little way off it, to carry the ends of the blade. Tilt the blade top toward you and gently draw it toward you across the wax, paring it down until you reach the veneer level.
This method is favoured by furniture restorers, but isn't foolproof, especially on ultra high gloss finishes such as that probably sported by the Grundig set you have. Worth a try, though. If you can find some kid's coloured crayons that would suit, they work too! -Tony |
