Default Wall mounted turntable

Once again not sure if this is correct place, so mods move if necessary, thanks.
Just read in my “Stuff” magazine, thanks to my grandson, a new record deck designed for wall mounting, not sure of the benefits but as my wife suggested suitable for a very small room or just “cool”!
Cheers

Vertical turntables have been around since the 1980's IIRC Sharp and Mitsubishi made them.

Sounds like the perfect accompaniment to the current fashion for buying LPs to stick the sleeves up as wall decorations.

I think I saw one of the toshiba or was it sharp ones in about 1980.

It sounds rather silly to me!
Unless you live in a telephone kiosk, just put a shelf on the wall and stand a conventional turntable on that...…………….

I agree Andy, but there you go,and they call it “sexy”!? It’s called a Pro-Ject VT-E and priced at £269.

With that name and price figure, they're labouring the "sexy" somewhat already!

These days, though, telephone kiosk sized rooms are generously proportioned- look at that high ceiling.........

Good quality turntables should almost always be wall-mounted, as this greatly reduces acoustic coupling to the room. Just put up a suitable size sturdy shelf and place the turntable on it. As I once discovered, about the worst possible place to put a good turntable is on top of a 70's 'hi-fi rack'.

That's second-worst.

The worst is inside a 1960s radiogram with the speakers in the same cabinet.

How do they get the right weight for given cartridge, and how do they achieve correct tracking, must be some clever engineering?

I’ve got one of Sony’s little PS-Q7 turntables, and that was mounted on the wall, since it was in an upstairs room with springy floors it made sense to put it somewhere solid.

I’m sure it was both Sharp and Mitsubishi that had vertical turntables, Sony also made a very small vertical one too PS-F9 I think it was.

Lloyd

Didn't these things have a linear tracking 'arm' driven by a worm (similar to a CD player) and the arm and cartridge were on soft springs...something like that. I remember seeing a Sharp vertical player that was supposed to be the 'bees knees'. It must use something similar to the in-car record players that had a brief popularity. The Bush 'Discassette' comes to mind.

IIRC Sharp made a large ghetto blaster with a vertical turntable, which could play both sides without flipping the disc.

There is a note at the bottom of that page to say the left handed version is not available in the UK, I don’t recall seeing any left handed turntables.

My walls shake too much when trains go by so I have the turntable on a desk, everything else on the walls, including front-ported speakers

Basic engineering common sense says work with gravity and take advantage of it as opposed to having to fight it!

A Google image search suggests that the VT-E L is basically a normal VT-E with the mounting/supporting bits fitted so that it can be hung upside down.

I have the same problems with buses, ever since our local bus company started running huge buses along our narrow residential road. It wasn't too bad to start with but as the road surface has deteriorated into a series of bumps, the vibration has become evident in every room in the house, and playing LPs on my Technics direct drive deck has become problematic.
