Default Dynatron HFC 51 | Two issues

I have had my Dynatron for just over a year now, and I have never had these happen until now.

Issue 1) The turntable now takes a lot (and I mean a lot) longer to get up to correct speed by itself. It can maintain that speed, but struggles to get to it. (I just push the platter round myself so it has the boost to get to correct speed.

I have checked the motor and belt and both seem fine.

Any ideas as to why and how I can fix this?

Issue 2) I can be playing an album or a few singles and then there is a "pop" from the speakers, and the volume is louder, only slightly louder, but definitely noticeable.

Any ideas as to why and how I can fix this?

Which turntable does it use?

Most likely in need of a new belt and the turntable bearing needs cleaning and relubricating.

Oh okay, thank you.

Do you know where I can get an affordable belt? I've look online and they are either ridiculous prices which I can't afford or out of stock.

Thanks

Firms such as CPC and Cricklewood Electronics stock wide ranges of drive belts at reasonable prices. As the existing belt is likely to have stretched, my suggestion is that you measure the diameter of this, then subtract about 5% from this figure, and order the nearest available diameter belt to that. The width of the belt could be critcal, so measure that as well.

Mike,

This is the deck that originally had a triangular cross-section belt fitted, which has caused much discussion on the forum recently.

A couple of USA companies have belts, you need to confirm with them if the are the correct profile though. Around $20, don’t know if you feel that is expensive.

Has Nick stated there was much discussion about this on the forum, search the forum for the posts.

I didn't realize that the G101 used a triangular belt. AFAIK, Firms like CPC, Cricklewood, etc., don't stock triangular belts, although a square cross-section belt of the correct dimensions may be suitable

I did actually read these threads but they linked to the out of stock belts or expensive belts. (Expensive for me as im only on a small budget.)

Thanks for all the replies though! I'll look on this US website.

The belt might respond to a bit of acetone (it tends to revive rubber) wet a cotton pad with it and wipe the whole belt - also clean the drive spindle and platter rim. Not expensive for a little bottle from your local pharmacist and it might save a few pounds - and it's always useful for reviving half dead idler wheels and the like.

I like Acetone, but be warned, plastic parts only need to get a sniff of it to be totally ruined.

i shall give Acetone a try, I'll be sure not to get it near plastics then!

I would much rather keep the original belt too, as it is all original and I'm all about originality. (As long as original works.)

Re Q2 could be a dry or loose joint. Try looking at the board with a magnifying glass and poking the PCB with a stick, whilst on that is.

Touch wood, it has been working fine since the day I posted that. (I use the player everyday and all day when I'm at home.)

I don't really want to mess around with the board at the moment when its working, but ill keep that in mind. Thank you.
