I've just tested it and it can read the chip with no problems with the display connected. I'd just assumed it might be a problem but thinking about it with the PORTC pins being inputs while the device is being held in reset, the column transistors will be off and therefore as long as you don't press any keys the programming pins will just be connected to LEDs with nothing connected the other side. So no need to remove the display!

As for the on-chip debugging, I've never tried that but assuming is just port B pins it uses it seems you'll be OK.

Again we're all familiar with it here, but for casual visitors, here's a vid of the PIC14:

Nice message display and build. Good idea to provide videos to explain the threads in context - going to be PICky ( ) it is generally accepted that the MK14 is M K not Mark as it stands for Microcomputer Kit 14 chips (the number needed to make it run) rather than a version number - if you have not found them yet worth reading the old Complement and Add user newsletters: (see Issue 7 for a reference).

Thats a nice quick video. I like the big display! I'm glad I made my display plug-in, as much as I like the authenticity of the calculator display I might need some bigger digits to save my eyes The overlay looks nice too! If only I had a 3D printer I'd make a case for mine. Perhaps I'll look into other options...
