Default Re: Valve boxes - bulk order?

With these xtras we have potentially 1500 boxes on back-order. Our last batch was 2200.
I can get a quote from NZ, and also from the US, although the US$ is high at present and even the NZ$ is higher.
Once I have this we can see if it makes sense. A smaller order means higher prices.
I won't be able to do much on this for 2 weeks but after that, let's see what we get.
regards
Jeremy

If this is still open, I might be interested in a hundred medium sized (ST-12, 6J5G size) boxes. It depends on the size as I have built some storage racks to suit the 1 5/8 x 1 5/8 x ~5 inch boxes that I have been previously buying from the USA (AES), so could someone kindly let me know the size of these boxes please?
Regards,
Adrian

I'd like to add an interest in 50 of each size. List might grow over time of course, as it's breeding season for valves.

If this goes ahead in the near future, I will want a couple of hundred, but will decide on types closer to the time.

FYI sizes (in mm) of boxes (square cross section):
Small: 25x85
GT: 35x85
Med: 43x125
Lge: 60x160
I think I will put a request out to the NZ chap for the orders we have so far and see what price comes back.
The NZ$ has got a bit stronger against the £, so we'll do a price calculation once he responds.
Could RF Burn, Lucien and Alan please let me have tentative order quantities.
May not work if the price is wrong but let's give it a try!

Hi Jeremy!

Do you know if you can order tube boxes with separate sleeve like those used for some dekatron tubes, in the included picture you can see the separate sleeve just above the dekatron tube.

These sleeves weren't used only for dekatrons, but that is what I need them for. These sleeves were manuafactured for many different kinds of cold cathode tubes in many different sizes, from tubes with ordinary B7G sockets up to B12E sockets.

I've not found any source for these sleeves yet in my searches so if you have any source that can sell these I am very interrested!

Kind regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,
No, I have never seen these sort of boxes for sale. I have a number of older valves (NOS) in these sort of sleeves. Sounds like you would have to get out your scissors and glue!

Default Re: Valve boxes - bulk order?

Greetings all, I have heard back from the NZ chap, based on the orders I had to hand when I emailed him.
Orders were:

name Small GT Med Large
Me (2) 50 25 25 75
Thermionic/Simon 100 0 100 0
Brian 100 100 100 50
AndyMic/Andy 150 50 50 50
Roger Walker 100 0 100 0
OldTT/Chris 300 0 0 0
Alan Stepney 150 25 25 25
Jim Jobe 100 0 50 0
Lucien Nunes 50 50 50 50
Stephen 100 0 0 0
Totals 1200 250 500 250
(sorry about formatting - can't get it any better)

The NZ$ has moved a little, so the easiest way of adjusting prices is to add 1p each on all boxes to cover the increase (can't start doing fractions of pennies!)

Prices are therefore:
Sm: 13p
GT: 16p
Med: 18p
Lge: 27p

Could each of the above people please either post or PM to confirm this is still acceptable. No problem if you don't want them - I am sure others will step in.

Adrian: sorry I got your confirmation just after the quotation was sent. I may have a few spare and will contact you separately

I will be sending £10 surplus from the last order to the BVWM

regards
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Not to worry, if there are any of the medium size ones without a home, I'll take them.

Thanks,
Adrian

The latest batch of valve boxes, all 18Kg of them, has just landed from NZ!
I will not be able to sort them out for a couple of weeks, but will PM all those who have ordered as soon as I can with total cost details.
regards

Great news Jeremy, very much appreciate the time and effort you put into this task.

Shame BVWS cannot provide this sort of service, i'm sure it would be popular and a little extra pence on top of each box could be donated to the museum.

That's great news Jeremy
Once again, thanks for you efforts which are well above and beyond the call of duty. I don't look forward to the invoice - but I'm looking forward to the boxes even though I will have to get organised and put valves in them !!

Default Re: Valve boxes - bulk order?

All boxes have now been distributed to those who pre-ordered. (Brian will collect his this week).

I am not going to do another order for now. It is after all pretty time-consuming and my repair heap is getting tottery and calling to me.

In the meanwhile thank you to everyone who has participated. It's a tribute to the forum members that I have had such a warm response to my idea. I worried at the outset about fronting up such an order, both practically and financially. All came out well though and I met some friendly new faces.

Over 5000 valve boxes have been imported and distributed. I still believe that the BVWS would be a far better channel for sales, given the evident demand. The surplus could help BVWS funds, in the same way as sales of capacitors are done. Boxes could be ordered in batches of a few '000s and sold at BVWS events.

Anyway I will be sending a further £15 donation to Gerry at the BVWTVM as surplus from this order. Nice result all round.

This thread has served its purpose. I can always start another one if needed. Or maybe someone else would like to carry the torch on the next batch.

Mods I think it's time to hang the " gone fishin' " sign on this one.

Di-Di-Dit Dah-di-Dah.
