I am currently restoring a1955 PYe 131 MBQ portable valve radio. It is covered in a fabric type material which is quite dirty with what look like rust marks, obviously not rust as it's made of wood. Any ideas what I can use to clean the casing, I've tried cream cleaner but with marginal success.

Foam cleanser cleans most things vintage. This is what I use: https://heass.co.uk/index.php/produc...-foam-cleaner/
Note that the brand name Servisol has been changed to Kontakt, so you may be able to purchase the same product under these two different names.

Look at where the rust is and it’ll probably be where the speaker fixing screws are. Best, if you can, is to remove the fabric, clean it and clean the rust away and paint over the screw heads with a gloss paint to seal the screws.
