Does anyone have service data for the Philips EL3302A/15P portable cassette recorder please?.
I have data for the EL3302A/15, EL3302A/15D and EL3302A/15G but not the 15P I have downloaded the 15P schematic from Radiomuseum (as a guest download) and it does seem to be very similar to the 15G. My 15G data includes the PCB layout, so these combined may be adequate. However if anyone has the PCB layout diagram for the 15P that would be ideal for fault-finding. I have one here that I purchased recently which works mechanically (although new belts will help) but playback is just occasional very feint distorted noises at maximum volume. I suspect electrolytic capacitors or dirty record/playback switch but would prefer to fault-find properly rather than bulk capacitor replacement especially as it's quite awkward to work on the PCB. Thank you. Paul |

Agreed, If the PCB is anything like the EL3312 I worked on, the print will lift as soon as you look at it.

Exactly!
The Philips N2202 data looks to be very similar too, so that's another possibility if I can't obtain the right manual. |

The official service information issued by Philips is:
EL3302/00P/15P/44P (just a sheet of paper), code number 4822 726 11121. I expect it is just a supplement, which refers to an earlier service manual. I will see if I can locate it in my loft. |

Thank you, that would seem likely as there's no point repeating the mechanical details etc in a new manual.
Note that is EL3302A/15P not EL3302/15P. The schematic I have from Radiomuseum is 3104 106 01214 |

I think the main change in the "P" version of the EL3302 is that the lid over the cassette compartment is clear, rather than opaque and the carry case is smaller, with no room for the microphone. Last edited by dazzlevision; 23rd Sep 2023 at 2:14 pm. |

Mine has the black lid with the small window but it's possible it's been swapped in the past.
These type numbers are certainly confusing! |

Here is the Philips UK produced supplement sheet to their UK produced service manual for the EL3302A/15G. It describes component and track layout on the main PCB.

Thank you. I already have that with my EL3302A/15G manual, and it appears to be very close to the EL3302A/15P so is what I will work with if there's no specific EL3302A/15P data.

Here's the PCB component side layout from the original UK produced large (fold out) service sheet.
This states the main difference in the "G" version is the change to use Silicon transistors. |

I had these documents downstairs but will fish out the EL3302/00P/15P/44P sheet ASAP.

Thank you, it'll be interesting to see how that compares.
I have ordered belts which I will fit at the same time so it won't be until at least next weekend that I start trying to repair it. Makes sense. It's a mix of silicon for small signal, and germanium for output, bias oscillator and motor control. It has AC187/AC188 output compared to AC127/AC128 in earlier models. |

I've had a very good look for this sheet in my loft, but it has eluded me.
My Philips service manuals database says I do have it, but it's not where it should be! |

It must be over 40 years since I last repaired one of these. As far as I recall, there is very little difference between the 'G' version and 'P' version. Transistor types perhaps and a change to the motor control panel? You'll find the the 2202, 3302 2204 and 2205 types are superficially the same circuit. The 'P' was just a supplement to the main 'G' version.

Thank you for looking dazzlevision and for your information Sideband. It certainly seems that the 15G and other data I have will be sufficient.

One change was from BC14x lokfit to BC54x transistors but I don't know if that coincided with a /P change.

I have three EL3302A/15P and will have a closer look at them, to see what the internal changes were - when I get time! |

I have unearthed one of my EL3302A/15P machines and there is a small, folded up circuit diagram tucked in between the case and motor housing. I can post it here if you'd like?
The WT03 code on the motor housing label shows it was made in Austria (Vienna) and the 247 indicates indicates it was made in mid-1967. |

Yes please, then I know I have the correct one. You may need to put it in a ZIP or PDF file as the forum will resize image files.
I didn't see a diagram like that in mine, but I'm definitely not the first person in there! Thank you. |

Diagram attached.
Of course, there may have been changes during the course of production of this model.....my machine is the (Vienna) factory mod state WT 03. |
