Serial number research Philips (and rebranded Philips) VCR (N15xx/N17xx), VCC (V2000)
I've been collecting serial numbers for VCR and VCC videorecorders made by Philips for some time now, to establish a timeline and hopefully one day a good estimate of the number of machines produced.
My research includes only machines that are branded and/or produced by Philips. This also includes for example Pye and some none Philips related brands that carried Philips sets such as Finlux. Also, serial numbers for early VHS recorders (VR6460, VR6560, VR6461, VR6462, VR6463, VR6660, VR6860 etc. up to the 1986/1987 model year) are welcome. Until now, most serial numbers I collected are for machines destined for continental Europe so in an effort to fill some gaps I'm now expanding to the UK and will have to find sources for other countries as well. Production was in Vienna, Austria from the start. Later Philips repurposed the TV factory in Krefeld, Germany. I haven't seen other production locations so far, likely those are the only two for this era. Rough production weeks for some models according to the current data: N1500 1972 - 197451 N1501 197513 - 197625 N1520 197404 - 197512 N1502 197626 - 197912 N1512 197722 - 197935 N1700 197734 - 197909 N1702 197911 - 198006 VR2020 198019 - 198124 VR2021 198137 - 198142 VR2022 198143 - 198228 (first model to be also produced in Krefeld, Germany starting early 1982) VR2023 198214 - 198240 VR2024 198233 - 198313 VR2120 198237 - 198432 (tuner for VR2220; only produced in Krefeld) VR2220 198250 - 198416 (only produced in Vienna) VR23xx/VR28xx 198327 - 198501 (not so many after late 1984) VR2414/VR2424 198408 - 198437 (only produced in Krefeld) VR6460 198511 (VHS loosely based on VR2424, only produced in Krefeld) VR6560 198441 - 198503 (VHS loosely based on VR23xx, only produced in Vienna) My threads on this at the Dutch mfbfreaks forum (serial numbers collected here will be entered there): http://www.mfbfreaks.com/forum/viewt...hp?f=17&t=8898 http://www.mfbfreaks.com/forum/viewt...hp?f=17&t=8899 I prefer sharp pictures of type labels but a transcription of brand, full model number and serial number is also welcome! If you want your serial number to be recorded anonymously, please state so (can of course be through a pm). Any questions on the numbering system, production details, etc. are also welcome in this topic. Last edited by Maarten; 9th May 2018 at 1:09 am. |

Too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sorry!
I saw one last Sunday inside a flea market hall at Sankt Pölten/Austria! No idea when I will ever get there again. Best regards, German Dalek P.S. If I ever will have the time I give you the shots of my 2 sets, stored anywhere......

Hi.
I've now located my two V2000 machines for the database: Philips VR2022/05 Serial No. WD 15 227 8 2025722 and Pye 20VR20/05 Serial No. WD56 116 A 2200275. See attached labels. Regards Symon. |

Thanks! I see some kind of pattern emerging already, not sure why and if it means something. I'll wait for more examples, but for now I notice that the actual serial number part for machines for the UK manufactured in Vienna, often starts with a 2 in stead of a 1.
