Ferrograph Series 6, value?
I have two Ferrograph reel to reel tape recorders that belonged to my late father. He bought them new in the mid 1960's and although they are different machines he kept them side by side in a large "stereo cabinet". No one was allowed to touch them therefore I have no idea if he used them together or why he had two. I have manuals for both machines and they are in pristine condition - no marks or wear, just like the day they came from the factory! Any help valuing these machines would be appreciated as I would like to sell them, preferably to a collector who will appreciate them for the condition they are in and the fact that there are two of them. Photo attached.

Re: Ferrograph Series 6, value?
These are Series Six machines, one mono, one stereo. It would be well to check the type number on the little plate at the back of the machine. Briefly, the models were:
631 - mono, half track, two head. 632 - stereo, half track, three head. 633 - mono, half track, three head (The Connoisseur") 634 - stereo, quarter track, three head. Speeds are 1 7/8, 3 3/4, 7 1/2 ips on standard models and 3 3/4, 7 1/2, 15 ips on models with the "H" suffix. Values are a variable feast - auction sites are a fair guide, up to a point - but in the lowish three figures, broadly. |

Re: Ferrograph Series 6, value?
I see that the OP is in Canada...
I wonder if the machines are there or (still?) in the UK - this being a UK vintage forum. Mains voltage/frequency issues? Graham

Re: Ferrograph Series 6, value?
It is rare to see Ferrograph machines in such lovely condition as most of them where used commercially in schools etc. and had a hard life.
I have no idea of value but I imagine the condition will make them quite sought after by people like us who live in the sixties! Perhaps a specialist auction might get you the best price but then theres commission. If they were mine I don't think I could sell them ! Best Wishes John |
