Default 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.

What is the closest capacitor I can use to replace a electrolytic capacitor in a Vidor radio?

Would a 10uf be OK?

Regards,

Robin

Probably, but what's its purpose in the circuit? What model is the radio?

Surely a 4.7uf would be closest. Just check voltage rating.

It is a Vidor CN359 12V capacitor.

Looking at the circuit I can't see a 4uF 12V capacitor. What's its designation or function?

The only 4uf capacitor in that radio is rated at 350v, the only 12 volt caps are 50uf, if it is one of these suggest 47uf 25v replacement, if it is the 4uf 350v that can be replaced with 4.7uf 350-450v or your 10uf 350-450v will be ok.

A duff CFL will yield a 350v capacitor (2-10uf depending on wattage)

Be very careful dismantling a CFL as that cap can hold a charge for a very long time (guess how I know that )

I will be careful of caps, thanks for the warning.

I have had a look through my radio and television servicing books but do not have the diagram.

Sevice sheet avaliable here.http://www.service-data.com/search.p...&search=Search. If you are working on Vintage Receivers well worth buying the DVD in the long run.
