4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
What is the closest capacitor I can use to replace a electrolytic capacitor in a Vidor radio?
Would a 10uf be OK? Regards, Robin Last edited by Mike Phelan; 6th Jul 2014 at 8:45 am. Reason: Readability. |

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
Probably, but what's its purpose in the circuit? What model is the radio?

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
Surely a 4.7uf would be closest. Just check voltage rating.

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
It is a Vidor CN359 12V capacitor.

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
Looking at the circuit I can't see a 4uF 12V capacitor. What's its designation or function?

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
The only 4uf capacitor in that radio is rated at 350v, the only 12 volt caps are 50uf, if it is one of these suggest 47uf 25v replacement, if it is the 4uf 350v that can be replaced with 4.7uf 350-450v or your 10uf 350-450v will be ok.

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
A duff CFL will yield a 350v capacitor (2-10uf depending on wattage)

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
Be very careful dismantling a CFL as that cap can hold a charge for a very long time (guess how I know that )

Re: 4mfd electrolytic capacitor.
I will be careful of caps, thanks for the warning.
I have had a look through my radio and television servicing books but do not have the diagram. Last edited by Mike Phelan; 7th Jul 2014 at 4:42 pm. Reason: Readability. |

Sevice sheet avaliable here.http://www.service-data.com/search.p...&search=Search. If you are working on Vintage Receivers well worth buying the DVD in the long run.
