Westminster record player value?
Could anyone advise on the value of this Westminster record player. It currently doesn’t power up but I haven’t investigated further.

Re: Westminster record player value
A good indicator of what it’s worth is to check similar unrestored items on eBay, note the sold price not the asking price.

Re: Westminster record player value
Id say £50 max, and only if a particular person wants that model, only a few brands fetch larger sums and in better working order too.
It does look a little like a Dansette so that might help it on ebay |

Re: Westminster record player value?
Thinking more like £20 in an unrestored state and possibly the BSR UA15 deck worth more than the unit as a spare. EBay will take down "looks like Dansette or style/type"

Re: Westminster record player value?
Westminster was a Currys house brand in the 1960s.

Re: Westminster record player value?
I think £20-£50 is probably about right, but you can never tell with old record players. Some people go completely nuts when bidding for them.

Re: Westminster record player value?
A quick search on eBay confirms that it seems to be a combination of marketing, patience and luck which determines the selling price. List it using, for example, the words 'vinyl', 'mid century' and 'valve' (if applicable), and be prepared to wait for your asking price to be met.
Just like any other retailing, really! |

Re: Westminster record player value?
Gosh, I'd forgotten all about Westminster brand stuff! My parents had a Westminster radiogram. It was basically a cheap sideboard with sliding doors. The radio was behind one door and the other hid the record player and there were speakers at either end behind grooved panels. It was a huge thing for what it did: I suspect it was trying to emulate the 'long and low' look of Danish furniture of the period.

Re: Westminster record player value?
Radiograms were prized pieces of furniture as well as for entertainment. The less expensive ones like the Westminster range brought a lot of enjoyment both in looks and sound to many.

Re: Westminster record player value?
The record player comes from c.1963 given its UA15 deck. Unsure whether is one or two stages? Probably sounds as good as, or better, thnt any comparable Dansette - except it doesn't have that name.

Re: Westminster record player value?
At least it has a name, some didn't even have that honour. In any case, they were all much of a muchness. Its value is probably largely dependant on the condition of the cartridge, which is currently unknown.

Re: Westminster record player value?
Repaired one recently. The valves are UL84 and UY85 with X5H cartridge.
I had to replace the UL84. Cheers John |

Re: Westminster record player value?
I should have said it was a Fidelity Westminster Record Player.

Re: Westminster record player value?
I think this one was made before Fidelity started badging their players for Currys. The OP said it does not "power up" which may be a simple fix - but if the cartridge has died, then some considerable cost may be involved in restoring this.

Phiggystardust;
How did you find out the record player is a "Westminster" ? As I can see the name on the unit.

There is a name plate on the back of the one I repaired.
