Default Big L - is it still on m.w ?

Hi. I usually like to listen to Big L on 1395 kHz m.w at night, and in early morning, but found to my dissapointment one morning that I could not receive it. Has it left the m.w band for good, as all I can hear is a French and German station around the area that it was in.
Many thanks
Mike

I am really missing BIG L. I have internet, but listening to it on my Ekco A144 or DAC 90A on 215 Metres Medium Wave sounds great! I hope they get the transmitter up and running very soon.

I really enjoy listening to the Wolfman Jack show, 'This is the voice of England' on 1395 kilohertz, enter the seagulls!!

I hope they get back on the air but looking at that link it looks like there is uncertainties about the transmitters future. So if it does come back I suggest that we all enjoy it whilst it lasts. Here in Bristol we vcan get the signal loud and clear after dusk and when the TWR station from Albania is off air.

Is the internet feed working? I hear nothing. Do I need to install anything?

The "listen Live" player seems to work fine from here:-

Info here:

Did you know Radio 10 Gold is back on 828 kHz from Holland? It was a great station when it used to be at 675 kHz. Might be worth a listen.

Hi Richard. That is excellent news. I also enjoyed listening to it when it was on 675khz m.w.
I actually collect pop & rock music from Holland (not Eurovision song music), and there is some really interesting material to be had there (not always available in Britain). Radio 10 Gold, and offshore stations were always useful in illustrating & promoting Dutch and other European pop/rock music (whether in English or not)
Cheers

Sadly here in north Essex 828 is co-channel a UK Gold station. :-(

Arrow Classic Rock was also a very good station, now only on Web and FM.

It's ironic that the Dutch station with the strongest UK signal is Radio Maria on 675 Khz, Their programmes are boring, at any rate they are to me.

Another example of how good the continentals are with music radio is Studio Brussel (RDS "StuBru") on 102.1 MHz FM. It comes in here regularly when there's a slight lift.

I did read that all licences for Dutch commercial stations are up in 2011, so who knows what will then turn up on 675 kHz?

But then, how much longer will MW analogue broadcasting be allowed to continue?

There was a transmision on 1395 Khz a few minutes ago, but it's now disappeared. Sounds like testing is in progress.

Hi Richard. I have the same problem with 828 Khz a.m as you do, as an I.L.R station called "Magic 828" is in the way of receiving 10 Gold here in Leeds. I would much rather listen to 10 Gold than these local stations, or the BBC.
I hope that Big L will return soon, as it is one of my favourites, along with Waddenzee, but I can only get decent reception of both on the east coast.
I seem to remember reading once on another forum about English listeners complaining about the closure of 10 Gold, and someone in Holland stating that it was "None of their business" why it was closing down. If that was the case, then why have an international popular radio station in the first place ?
Regards
Mike

Perhaps you could use a loop antenna to null out the local (unwanted) station.
Have a look here for ideas:
http://www.mds975.co.uk/Content/aerials1.html
It depends also on the alignment of the two stations. If they are roughly in line with each other from your location, dont bother trying with a loop. Tony

I found 5 cd's full of John Peels The Perfumed Gardens on the Internet today recorded from the original Big L. I've been listening to it all night and it really is fantastic stuff.

They are complete vintage shows so I hope it doesn't break forum rules by mentioning that I found them on a Pirate Bay torrent.

Unfortunately, the local and therefore stronger Asian Network here in the Black Country on 828AM means I can't listen to Big L.

Apparently Big L is back on MW!

Just tried here in Staffs and can't pick it up on either a Sony ICF-7600D or a Hacker RP-38a Hunter, might have to try again after dark

If it is back on it's extremely weak. I can't even detect a carrier, but the noise level here is S6.
